Duke men's cross country 2013 season preview

The Scoop: With five of the seven scoring runners returning this season, the men’s cross country team looks to improve upon its fifth-place and 30th-place finishes at the ACC and NCAA Championships, respectively. Head coach Norm Ogilvie hopes to utilize Duke’s past successful recruiting years to fill out the remaining four positions from many talented potential scorers.

Key Players: Brian Atkinson—Finishing 129th at the NCAA Championships with a personal record time, Atkinson, a senior, earned All-ACC honors with a 17th-place finish at the ACC Championships last season.

Mike Moverman—A fifth-year senior, Moverman finished 179th at the NCAA Championships in 2012 and earned All-ACC honors with a ninth-place finish at the ACC Championships.

Shaun Thompson—Returning as a junior, Thompson wrapped up a successful outdoor track season and hopes to help pace Duke’s core group of frontrunners.

Meets to watch: Sept. 14 at Furman XC Classic, Oct. 11 at Royals Challenge, Oct. 19 at NCAA Pre-Nationals

Prediction: Fifth at ACC Championships, 26th at NCAA Championships
