UNC basketball player P.J. Hairston reportedly arrested for drug possession

North Carolina basketball player P.J. Hairston was reportedly charged Wednesday for possession of marijuana and driving without a lisence, according to multiple reports.

Hairston was reportedly stopped at 10:20 p.m. at a check point in downtown, East Durham at the intersection of Holloway and Guthrie streets.

UNC released a statement to ABC 11:

"We are aware of the situation involving one of our athletes," UNC Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications Steve Kirschner said. "We are still gathering information and may comment further later."

Hairston, a rising junior, had considered entering June's NBA Draft but decided to return to Chapel Hill for his junior season.

Last season, Hairston led the Tar Heels with 14.6 points per game. The 6-foot-5 wing made 2.6 3-pointers per game, adding 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals.

Earlier in the week, Hairston was invited to Team USA's World University Games training camp along with Duke basketball players Rodney Hood and Quinn Cook.
