After brother Mason Plumlee tweeted earlier today that his brother Marshall was going under the knife, the Duke basketball team announced this afternoon that the foot surgery was successful, and Marshall will be sidelined 12-16 weeks.
Plumlee, who redshirted the 2011-12 season, suffered the injury during the preseason and subsequently missed the first nine games of the year.
“Marshall was having a very good preseason before suffering the injury last year,” head coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a statement. “The injury set him back but we expect him to make a full recovery and be a key contributor for us next season.”
He came back after that but saw only limited minutes, even after senior forward Ryan Kelly went down for 13 games with a foot injury of his own.
Tremendous support from teammates, friends, family, and Duke fans around the world! I'm doing great- thank you everyone!— Marshall Plumlee (@marshallplumlee) April 23, 2013
The surgery was performed today by Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center by Dr. James Nunley. According to Nunley’s DukeHealth profile, his clinical interests are, “Foot and ankle surgery, arthritis and sports injuries of the foot and ankle, ankle replacement.”
Plumlee is the third Blue Devil to undergo leg/foot surgery this offseason. Seth Curry and Kelly both underwent surgeries on injuries they also played through.
Nunley also performed the surgery on Kelly.
