I woke up this morning, loaded facebook (not necessarily first thing...), and then I saw
The world is a slightly better place, everyone.
The realization that I am surrounded by the vast majority of, what is it now, 2,880 people? who like Duke Memes, evokes some sense of solidarity from the same place that probably gets us excited for the UNC game and LDOC.
It's also a little terrifying how distracting it is. If memes were a problem in the first place, then Duke Memes that we all can somehow personally relate to is going to be a tough one.
Every time I've gotten sidetracked by Duke Memes today, I can't help thinking back to a Conspiracy Keanu one saying something along the lines of, "What if UNC created Duke Memes so that we all fail?"
Of course I can't find it in the gajillion posts that everyone has posted since then. I doubt think this page is ever going to die down...the ability for anyone to post, the universal appeal of good humor (I'd say about 70% of the Duke Memes make the cut), and the influx of new students every year, and the fact that it's on Facebook--all of these factors will help maintain the incredible self-sustaining nature of the page.
