David Cutcliffe has hired one of his former assistants at Mississippi to replace Matt Luke as the Blue Devils' offensive coordinator, Duke sports information has confirmed to The Chronicle.
John Latina, who served six years as offensive line coach for the Rebels—including five as offensive coordinator—has over 25 years of assistant coaching experience in stops at Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Temple, Kansas State, Clemson and Virginia Tech.
Cutcliffe and Latina were hired by Fighting Irish head coach Charlie Weis as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, respectively, in 2004. Latina resigned in January 2009 after four years with the program.
In 2007, the Notre Dame offensive line allowed a then-NCAA record 58 sacks as the team averaged just 75.2 yards per game on the ground. The unit improved the following year, allowing 27 sacks and 109.69 yards per game.
