Duke tennis players begin Indoor Nationals

Three Blue Devils will take part in the 2010 USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships starting today at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Senior Reka Zsilinszka is the only Duke women’s player in the field, qualifying by reaching the quarterfinals at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. She earned the No. 8 seed in the 32-player singles bracket after posting a 9-1 singles record so far this season. Zsilinszka will take on Baylor’s Sona Novakova in the first round.

On the men’s side, Henrique Cunha and Reid Carleton will compete in both singles and doubles. The pair enters the tournament fresh off earning its second-straight ITA Carolina Regional doubles crown in dominating fashion, winning 8-1 over North Carolina’s Joey Burkhardt and Jose Hernandez. No. 2 Cunha defeated No. 30 Hernandez in the ITA Carolina singles final in three sets, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3. The victory marked Cunha’s third career tournament singles title.
