Andre Dawkins' sister killed in crash, biological mother injured

Freshman guard Andre Dawkins is on leave after his sister was killed in a car accident Saturday.

West Virginia State Police said Dawkins' sister, Lacey Dawkins, 21, was involved in a three-vehicle crash in Pax, W. Va., on her way to Saturday's Duke-St. John's basketball game. Lacey Dawkins was a passenger in one of the vehicles, according to the Associated Press.

The basketball player's mother, Tamara Hill, was injured in the wreck, Associate Sports Information Director Matt Plizga told WRAL Monday.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Andre’s sister, Lacey,” head basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski told WRAL. “Andre is a terrific young man and his family is very important to him. Our thoughts and prayers go out the entire Dawkins family during this trying time.”

West Virginia CBS affiliate WVNS reported Monday that the accident also injured three others.
