Krzyzewski Puts Rumors to Rest

Since the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA title, there has been much speculation that Mike Krzyzewski would leave the Blue Devils to coach the Lakers, given the close friendship he shares with Kobe Bryant and current Los Angeles coach Phil Jackson's numerous physical ailments.

But at his annual summer press conference, Krzyzewski made it clear that he has no plans now, or any time in the foreseeable future, of heading to the NBA.

"I'm not going to the Lakers. They have one of the great coaches in the game," Krzyzewski said. "I don't know where that rumor started, but there has been nothing done like that, and I'm not leaving Duke. Whatever you hear about anything like that, I will never leave Duke until I leave coaching."

The Lakers previously offered Krzyzewski a contract valued at around $40 million in the summer of 2004, after the team parted ways with Jackson following a defeat in the 2004 NBA Finals.

Krzyzewski also addressed rumors surrounding his future as the USA Basketball head coach. He said that the coach for the 2012 Olympics in London will be announced July 21, but he gave no indication as to whether or not he will continue to head the national team.
