project pat

The ideology of Memphis native Project Pat's seventh studio album, Real Recognize Real, can be summed up quickly: money, strip clubs, guns and weed.

On "Keep it Hood," the first-and unquestionably best-track on the album, Pat keeps the beat fierce and pumping, with a powerful, fast-tempo chorus. He spits, "I got plenty cars/money wads/ghetto star/hood broads/felony charge/I'ma keep it hood!" Unfortunately, despite a few tracks with strong guest spots-mainly from Three 6 Mafia, which includes Project's little brother Juicy J-the rest of the album steadily goes downhill from there.

That is not to say that Project's songs fail to entertain; the demonic laugh underlining "Slick Hater" makes the track an unusual but creepily satisfying listen. On "Stayin High," Project shows off his comedic side when he chants, "We stayin high/like the price of gas." On other tracks, he maintains his ludicrous humor with seriously lascivious lyrics. "Bang Smack" sees him telling his girl she better "put this snake on your plane." On the same note, He will certainly secure spots on strip club playlists with tracks like "Pogo Stick" and "Horny" (no further explanation needed).

When he's not boasting about his purple or his strippers, Pat is daring his enemies to cross him. On "Catch a Hot One," his multiple stints in prison clearly haven't altered his way of life: "Get ya head blown off/that's how we goin' settle it."

Overall, Real Recognize Real has solid beats and some great laughs, but it grows repetitive far too soon.
