Coach K's Book, "The Gold Standard," In Early Stages

Mike Krzyzewski did his part in hyping his forthcoming book when he led Team USA to a gold medal in the Beijing Olympics. Now the heavy lifting rests with his daughter and co-author, Jamie K. Spatola, for the book, entitled "The Gold Standard," the head coach announced at his preseason press conference Monday.

Spatola, who majored in English at Duke, also helped write Krzyzewski's previous book, "Beyond Basketball: Coach K's Keywords For Success." She accompanied Krzyzewski on all stages of the Olympic process and the pair reflected in the weeks after the win in order to accurately gauge his emotions.

The crux of the book is "building a world-class team," Krzyzewski said. "

Jamie's doing a lot of work. I told her, 'We're at a point right now where, there's only one person going like that,' and that's her," he said as he motioned push-ups. "Every once in a while, I'll yell some things like, 'Go faster.' Maybe I shouldn't say that because that could be a bad thing, right?"

Krzyzewski's last book was a bestseller, and his next offering might sell more copies. It's slated for a—you guessed it—release in March.
