REAL Fear

I'm not afraid to die. I've seen The Ring.

I've encountered Freddie, I've stood toe to toe with Jason (all 10 times) , but The Ring scared me to levels previously unimagined.

From the opening sequence, the film is tinged with an unnameable, unexplainable terror. A story fraught with child abuse, murder and revenge from beyond the grave, The Ring speaks to the darkest parts of your soul. The premise is simple: You watch "the" tape. You die. And right before you take your short trip into the long sleep, you see... the ring.

About as tight as a horror film gets, The Ring smoothes over any plot holes by sinking its claws of existential fear into your unsuspecting flesh.

Personally, I spent most of the movie just trying not to wet my pants.

There is probably a whole truckload of symbolic and ideological questions that you could analyze about The Ring, all of which are rendered inconsequential by the sheer dread of the experience.

Should you see The Ring? I don't know. But be sure to think long and hard about what you want your next week to be like.
