Letter: Employees were also targeted by Dole campaign

I write to add a Duke employee's voice to alumnus Bob Conroy's protest of the "Blue Devils for Dole" reception that was held last Friday. Like Conroy, I am a Democrat who received an invitation to this event. Since mine came to my Duke mailbox rather than my home, I am led to wonder if names of Duke employees, as well as Duke alumni, have been shared with the Dole campaign. Certainly Coaches Mike Krzyzewski and Gail Goestenkors are entitled to publicly support a political candidate, but appropriating the name "Blue Devils" implies a Duke University endorsement of Dole they have no right to confer.
