It's hard to resist describing Le Tigre's Kathleen Hannah like that, although if she were around to hear me say it I'd probably get my penis handed to me on a leather-studded platter--pardon the castration anxiety. She's still pretty angry, but since leaving behind the seminal riot-grrl band Bikini Kill to form Le Tigre with Sadie Benning and Johanna Fateman, she seems to have found that feminist politics can shake booty just as hard as they can pump fists.

They play at the Cat's Cradle Thursday--tinny drum beats and gyno-power mantras never rocked Carrboro so hard. Their new album, Feminist Sweepstakes, moved the punk/pop/electronica mix of their excellent self-titled first effort even further into the dance floor, so the live setting should be an even better host for Le Tigre's groove. The band's rollerskate jams may be "for the ladies and the fags, yeah," but this alpha male will be throwing gender anxiety to the wind and getting down with the rest of them.
