Dear Editor, The Duke LGBTQ Network, representing Duke's LGBTQ alumni, their families, and allies, read with dismay that President Brodhead was "pleased" by the so-called repeal of the harmful HB2 law.
Rejecting the natural gas plant is the right thing to do, and is best for Duke and its stakeholders.
It’s a fact I enjoy repeating that until the 20th century there were no universities in Venice.
Duke must know there is a battle for our lives and planet being fought right now.
I am responding to the Editorial Board's March 25 column "(Purchase) power of donors." In the column, the authors made a disturbing reference to the Duke lacrosse scandal, mentioning that the scandal highlighted "sexual assault, gender privilege and racial discrimination" at Duke.
Duke should be wary of building such a plant on campus at a time when the Trump Administration expressed a disinterest in the environment and the EPA is in peril.
As an influential university, we must be careful and critical about which people we entertain as intellectual leaders.
During these years, certain factions on university campuses have attempted to “out liberal” each other and in many cases, created a climate of intolerance unless one mirrors the political beliefs of these factions.
We ask the administration to again stand for its students and values of inclusivity by standing against President Trump’s revised executive order issued on Monday.
Through my dancing I felt the pride of my ancestors and the warmth of grandparents I never had the chance to meet.
However, in all of our cultures and traditions, we see a common celebration of peace and love and see harmful acts inflicted upon others as despicable sins.
Why aren't these authorities involved in rape cases that, by definition, are violations of laws (statutes) and thereby cases to be tried in criminal court?
In this particular instance, the fight for more gender neutral bathroom options on campus has never been more salient.
So it was quite a surprise to me and many of my friends from China that an LNY show is scheduled at such a late time.
