Making the grade: Duke football vs. Virginia

After landing one of the best wins in program history against Notre Dame last weekend, the Blue Devils played like they did in early-season losses again Saturday, losing 34-20 to Virginia at Wallace Wade Stadium. Duke led 10-6 early in the second quarter, but the Cavaliers capitalized on numerous mistakes to respond with a 21-3 run to take control. The Blue Devils fell to 2-3 and 0-2 in the ACC.

Duke football head coach David Cutcliffe held his weekly press conference Tuesday, addressing Duke’s 49-6 victory against N.C. Central and the upcoming matchup against Wake Forest. The head coach touched on lessons learned and the progress of the team coming off its season opener. The Blue Devils (1-0) face the Demon Deacons (1-0) in their ACC opener at Wallace Wade Stadium this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Here are some of the more notable sound bytes from Cutcliffe’s press conference:

Three current Duke men's basketball players—Grayson Allen, Chase Jeter and Amile Jefferson—have written first-person columns this offseason for the team's "Devils Life" website. Freshman Jayson Tatum, assistant coach Nate James and former players Seth Curry and Gerald Henderson have also published columns on the site.

The Duke School of Medicine likely has not gotten many requests from students to switch their clinical and research years—typically their second and third of medical school—but gave Abby Johnston permission.
