After returning to Cameron Indoor Stadium to end the holiday festivities, Duke found itself with one more chance to hone its craft before entering the gauntlet of ACC play, as the Blue Devils hosted Coppin State to close out their nonconference slate. From the opening tip, it seemed as if Duke was intent on being a grinch, as it hounded the opposition defensively from buzzer to buzzer and 10 different Blue Devils scored en route to a 68-34 victory.

Just a day after announcing Jonathan Brewer as its new offensive coordinator, Duke made another huge switch on the sideline Wednesday afternoon with its hire of Jonathan Patke as its new defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Patke replaces Tyler Santucci, who took the job last year, at the post.

Just two weeks ago, it seemed like Duke men’s basketball’s season may be defined by intense underperformance — a-la 2022-23 North Carolina, who similarly began highly ranked before enduring an early slide. With star sophomore point guard Tyrese Proctor suffering an ankle injury and the Blue Devils sitting at 5-3, the outlook was bleak. Fast forward to the week of Christmas, where Duke knocked off then-No. 10 Baylor at Madison Square Garden to improve to 8-3, and it seems like Duke has regained the form needed to win the ACC.

Most Duke Kunshan University students from the Class of 2024 and 2025 began their college experience in Durham, when the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic made travel to China impossible. In the following years, several DKU students have applied to transfer to Duke, citing pandemic disruptions and academic differences as some of their reasons to return to Durham.
