Duke Alert reports second robbery this week

Two armed robberies occurred on and near Duke’s campus in the past three days, as reported by two separate Duke Alerts sent by Duke Police.

Two individuals were robbed outside of the Duke Gardens, according to a Duke Alert sent at 6 p.m. Monday. The two males suspects were carrying silver guns when the robbery occurred at 5:30 p.m., according to the Duke Alert. No injuries were reported.

The suspects in this incident were described as between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, one with a thin build wearing jeans and a white tank top with short braided hair; the other wearing jeans and a white t-shirt with a heavy build.

This was the second armed robbery to take place at and around Duke in the last three days. On Saturday, July 13, a Duke Alert was also sent after two individuals reported being robbed at gunpoint on Main Street at Buchanan Boulevard at 2:15 a.m.

The three suspects were described as three black males, one wearing a red hoodie jacket and dark pants. So far a description has not emerged regarding the other two, although a small handgun was allegedly present. The victims were not injured in this case as well.

John Dailey, chief of the Duke University Police Department, noted in an email Monday that the two victims from Saturday’s incident were adults who are not employees of Duke or students. He also said that Duke and Durham Police are working together to pursue a lead they have.
