Wake Deforestation

(02/29/12 5:00am)

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — In what is becoming a trend for No. 4 Duke (26-4, 13-2 in the ACC), turnovers late in games have allowed opponents to chip away at leads. It did not cost the Blue Devils this time, however, as they left Winston-Salem with a 79-71 win as the Demon Deacons’ comeback attempt fell short. With the victory in its final conference road game, Duke remained undefeated in ACC road play.

Conference lead on the line in Tallahassee

(02/23/12 5:00am)

A month ago, Duke was on the verge of tying its school-record with 46 consecutive home wins. Florida State, however, shocked the Blue Devils on Michael Snaer’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer to win at Cameron Indoor Stadium in January. Tonight No. 5 Duke (23-4, 10-2 in the ACC) hopes to avenge that loss to the No. 15 Seminoles (19-7, 10-2) at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fl. at 7 p.m.

Duke exhibits scoring depth in quarterfinal

(11/28/11 10:00am)

Many teams do not have the depth to compete when their top three scorers are held to a total of zero points. That is exactly what happened to Duke Friday night, but the Blue Devils’ depth more than made up for the fact that Kaitlyn Kerr, Kelly Cobb and Laura Weinberg were held scoreless. Duke displayed its strength in numbers, as sophomores Kim DeCesare and Gilda Doria netted a goal apiece to put the Blue Devils in their first NCAA Tournament semifinal since 1992.

Blue Devils open with pair of dominant wins

(08/22/11 8:00am)

As Gamecock Kortney Rhoades bore down on the Duke goal unmarked in the 64th minute, goalkeeper Tara Campbell was the only Blue Devil left who could keep Duke’s lead at 1-0. After threatening all half, South Carolina had its best chance to score, but Campbell was not going to let the No. 21 Gamecocks (1-1-0) back into the game. The junior stretched out just as Rhoades connected with the shot, reaching out to save it with her right foot.
