Coach Mike Krzyzewski will be confronted with a familiar face this Saturday, when the No. 1 Blue Devils (7-0) travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to take on the Michigan Wolverines (3-3) at 2 p.m. in Crisler Arena. However, for the first time, Duke alum Tommy Amaker will not be on Krzyzewski's side but will instead be trying to execute an upset as the first-year coach of the unranked Wolverines.
For as good as he is at stopping shots, Scott Maslin has a bad sense of timing. The senior goalkeeper on the men's soccer team arrived at Duke three years ago only to find himself buried on the depth chart behind star Atli Knutsson and then-sophomore Jeff Haywood. The abundance of goalies led to Maslin being redshirted. After the graduation of Knutsson, it was Haywood who took over the starting role and flourished, with All-ACC caliber seasons in both 1999 and 2000.
The Duke men's soccer team traveled to New Jersey Friday looking to prove it belongs amongst college soccer's elite teams. Instead, the Blue Devils (4-5) left with two heartbreaking losses, a three-game losing streak and proof that the young team needs just a little more experience before it is truly a player on the national scene.
The Duke men's soccer team (3-2) begins ACC play this Saturday, as it welcomes 12th ranked Maryland (3-2) into Koskinen Stadium for a 1 p.m. game.
