X factor: Duke football vs. Virginia Tech

Ranked its highest since 1994, No.19 Duke has the ACC Coastal Division crown within its grasp entering the final stretch of the season. With Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Wake Forest—a combined 10-17—left on the slate, an 11-1 finish and ACC Championship date with Florida State Dec. 6 is looking more and more likely. The Blue Devils will host the Hokies Saturday at Wallace Wade Stadium at 12 p.m. Every week throughout the football season, we’ll break down a player on each team who could be the difference-maker in the upcoming contest.





Extra Point: Duke football vs. Pittsburgh

After cracking the AP Top 25 for the first time this season, Duke (7-1, 3-1 in the ACC) went to Heinz Field and won a double-overtime thriller at Pittsburgh (4-5, 2-3) 51-48 Saturday. With the dramatic win that came after Panther kicker Chris Blewitt shanked a short field goal at the end of regulation, the Blue Devils are now alone atop the ACC Coastal Division.







Making the grade: Duke football vs. Georgia Tech

With a revitalized run game, Duke managed to methodically take down No. 22 Georgia Tech 31-25 at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, Ga., Saturday. Although the Blue Devils allowed two late fourth-quarter touchdowns after building an impressive 31-12 lead, their adjustments after struggling mightily at Miami two weeks ago on both sides of the ball allowed each unit to earn solid grades across the board.

After dropping its first ACC matchup of the season to Miami, Duke (5-1, 1-1 in the ACC ) stunned previously unbeaten and No. 22 Georgia Tech (5-1, 2-1) 31-25 at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils' strength up front was the key to upsetting the Yellow Jackets and their vaunted spread-option running game for the first time since 2003.
