Joseph Bland, an art dealer from Coral Gables, Fla., plead guilty Wednesday in a Virginia U.S. District Court to two counts of interstate transportation of stolen goods and one count of stealing culturally significant historic documents. The charges were brought against him last March by officials at the University of Virginia, who claim that Bland stole rare maps from the university's libraries.

For the third consecutive year, the number of alcohol policy violations among the undergraduate student body as reported by the Office of Student Development has increased. This year's tally, however, was "by far the largest on record," said Paul Bumbalough, associate dean of student development, in a cover letter that accompanied the annual disciplinary report that was released by his office May 31.

Joseph Bland, an art dealer from Coral Gables, Fla., who was scheduled to stand trial May 30 on two federal charges of interstate transportation of stolen goods and one count of stealing culturally significant historic documents, filed a motion for continuance May 24, prompting officials at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Charlottesville, Va., to say that they expect Bland to enter a guilty plea no later than next week.
