The Elections Commission of Duke Student Government issued a report early Monday morning explaining why it considers actions taken by the Interfraternity Council Friday afternoon to be unethical-actions that include explicit violations of DSG bylaws, bribery and tampering with the electoral process.

The Interfraternity Council Board of Advisors elected Dan Hill, Trinity '66, Thursday to serve as its chair for one year. Hill will succeed John Watt, Trinity '78, who had held the position since he established the board in December 1995.

During the Interfraternity Council Board of Advisors' quarterly meeting Thursday, Trinity junior Tom Sowers, president of IFC, announced Wednesday that Janet Dickerson, vice president for student affairs, suspended for one-year the three-year housing mandate and housing rotation plank inherent to the University's relatively new residential plan. The move came in response to a report that Sowers and other IFC executive board members submitted to Dickerson.

As much as the sometimes derogatory taunts of the Cameron Crazies ailed a worn, weathered and unranked N.C. State club Saturday night in Cameron Indoor Stadium, the No. 8 men's basketball team launched an aerial assault against the Wolfpack that inflicted much more pain. Duke (19-5, 8-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference) drained a school-record 15 three-pointers against N.C. State (9-11, 1-10 in the ACC), blowing out the Wolfpack, 80-51, and edging itself into second place in the ACC.

Matthew Timothy Hueman, a first-year medical school student, was charged early Thursday morning by Cpl. David Nicholson of the Duke University Police Department with one count of driving while intoxicated, according to an arrest report filed with the Durham County Magistrate's Office.

Gilbert Bland, an art dealer from Coral Gables, Fla., was sentenced Monday to eight months in jail and a three-year supervised release, and was also ordered to pay a $70,000 restitution fee to a handful of institutions, including Duke, from which he admitted stealing rare maps.

RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore center Payton Black led the 15th ranked women's basketball team to a resounding 89-60 victory over Richmond Sunday during the Central Fidelity Women's Invitational Tournament, as the Blue Devils (6-1) were relegated to playing in the consolation game after picking up their first loss of the season Saturday to a bigger and more experienced Old Dominion team, 89-77.

The 16th-ranked women's basketball team swept the ninth annual Duke Women's Basketball Classic in Cameron Indoor Stadium with a 85-58 victory over Illinois State in Saturday's semifinal round and an emotional 63-46 victory over St. Joseph's during Sunday's championship contest. Proceeds benefitted the Ronald McDonald House of Durham.

The University appointed Peter Mather Oct. 30 to serve as an assistant dean of student development. Mather, 36, fills the vacancy left by Charles VanSant, a former associate dean of student development who ended his 10-year tenure June 7 when he opted for a similar position at Georgetown University.
