The first of May marked the beginning of a new era in Duke field hockey as Liz Tchou was promoted from assistant to head coach. Tchou replaces Jacki Silar, who made the move, after 15 years of running the program, to become Duke's Senior Women's Administrator on a full-time basis.

Although the baseball season has not come to a conclusion yet, senior pitcher Scott Schoeneweis received a tremendous honor on Friday-an invitation to tryout for the 1996 USA Baseball Team. The bids given to Schoeneweis and Providence outfielder Peter Tucci brought the total number of invites thus far to 32.

The baseball team headed down to the sunshine state this weekend to do battle with unbeaten conference heavyweight Florida State. Duke left Tallahassee having hung with the Seminoles for the majority of all three games, but came home empty-handed nonetheless.

The baseball team travels to Tallahassee this weekend for its biggest challenge of the year-a three-game tilt against one of the nation's best programs, sixth-ranked Florida State. The Seminoles have continued their dominance of the Atlantic Coast Conference this year by posting a 12-0 conference mark thus far, coupled with their 34-8 record overall.

The baseball team put itself back on the winning track Wednesday afternoon at Jack Coombs Field by downing East Tennessee State 10-4. The win comes on the heels of a tough weekend series in which Duke dropped two of three to N.C. State and comes before the Blue Devils' weekend series against Florida State. The bats were potent, the pitching strong and the defense solid as Duke took full advantage of the opportunity to regroup and regain its winning form.

The bats were alive again Thursday afternoon as the Duke baseball team destroyed its second non-conference foe in as many days, downing the Aggies of North Carolina A&T 14-4. The win moved the Blue Devils to 30-7 on the year, marking the fifth consecutive year in which they have reached the 30-win plateau.

The Duke baseball team is off to the best start in team history, and at the center of it all is senior Mike King. On a team comprised almost entirely of freshmen and sophomores, King finds himself as the lone senior among the everyday players. With that as the case, King by default is left with the task of leading the team, something he chooses to do less by words and more by actions.
