In his first season at Duke, Fred Goldsmith led the football team to an 8-4 record and a berth in the Hall of Fame Bowl. The Blue Devils stumbled to 3-8 last year, though, as injuries plagued them throughout the season. Entering his third season in Durham, Goldsmith's mission, should he choose to accept it, is to right Duke's ship with the youngest team he has ever had and guide them to a winning record.

Less than a month before it will take the field in the Olympics, Team USA rolled into Durham Sunday with the label of being the best hitting team the U.S. had ever assembled. By the end of the night it was clear that tag is most likely true, but manager Skip Bertman was left with more questions about his inexperienced pitching staff.

Individual awards often come to those whose team accomplishes much during the course of a season. But for junior Tyler Hardy, such is not the case, as he was named the William F. Schmeisser Division I Defensive Player of the Year by the Lacrosse Foundation at its annual awards banquet last Saturday night, despite the Blue Devils finishing a disappointing 6-6 on the season.
