Administration postpones Bryan Center changes

Plans for the second phase of the long-awaited Bryan Center renovations have come to a standstill; Executive Vice President Tallman Trask has decided to wait for the Upperclass Residential Planning Committee to submit its initial report at the beginning of December before proceeding with the blueprints for allocating student organization space in the Bryan Center.











Marrero censured for failing to secure executive order

Duke Student Government Chief Justice and Trinity junior Josh Schaffer ruled Thursday that DSG President and Trinity senior Lino Marrero misrepresented his beer on points proposal to the legislature as an executive order "when it clearly was not." Schaffer issued his decision after Trinity junior Sarah Mitchell, DSG executive vice president, filed a complaint Oct. 7 challenging the constitutionality of the executive order Marrero had said he used to present the proposal to the alcohol policy review committee.

Trinity junior Sarah Mitchell, Duke Student Government executive vice president, filed a complaint Tuesday night with the DSG Judiciary disputing the legality of the executive order allegedly used by Trinity senior Lino Marrero, DSG president, and Trinity senior Jason Barclay, DSG chief of staff, to proceed with their "Beer on Points" proposal.






IFC postpones final decision on punishments

After several days of silence, the Interfraternity Council revealed that it will wait at least until its Oct. 16 meeting to determine the penalties for violating its ban on the open distribution of alcohol, which the council discussed during its Thursday, Sept. 25 meeting. Members remain committed, however, to the eventual establishment of punishments that will enforce the policy.




Students diverge on IFC distribution proposal

The Interfraternity Council's proposed revisions to its alcohol policy, which will be voted on at tonight's IFC meeting and, if passed, would effectively eliminate open distribution by fraternities, has aroused mixed sentiments among the student body. Many upperclass students see a dark cloud looming on the horizon of campus social life, while freshmen maintain that fraternities will continue to exist as their primary social outlet.
