In this new age of Internet shopping, some Duke students have begun to buy their textbooks at online bookstores such as Amazon.com and Borders.com. Often, students are able to find books for prices below those offered by the Duke Textbook Store, even with shipping costs.

Growing up, I had a hard time understanding the significance of celebrating a new year. Except for the date and an annoying inability to remember it until I had written the wrong one across all my papers, nothing much ever seemed to change. It was still cold, I was still in the same grade and life still went on as it had Dec. 31.
We call it the Gothic Wonderland. It's a world of joy and minor problems, where a B minus on a test and one boring Saturday night can qualify for a bad weekend. It's our bubble, where the world fades away and we're allowed to be young, reckless and worry-free. But bubbles break.
Ok, I'll say it. I miss the Hideaway. When I heard over the summer that Duke's infamous, decades-old, on-campus bar was closing, I figured it wouldn't matter. "It's just a bar," I told myself. At the time, it was hard to imagine missing the run-down place that so many of us spent the year complaining about.
Ah, summer. Sunshine. Vacations. Lemonade, ice cream and outdoor picnics. It's little wonder most of us look forward to the season with longing and always seem a little sad to see it go. After all, it doesn't seem to get much better than summer.
