John Baldecchi and Lawrence Bender made a brilliant decision when they chose to produce The Mexican. The producers recognized a script that could appeal to virtually every demographic if cast correctly-Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt handled that-and could blend the blockbuster with the newly profitable "art" film. All they needed was the right director to make it happen-and who better than Gore Verbinski, the genius behind the Budweiser Frogs?
