In April, a female Duke student sought a no-contact order from the University after reporting alleged nonconsensual sexual contact and stalking by a male student. Despite successfully obtaining a no-contact order from the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, she was denied a restraining order by a Durham judge during an April 19 hearing.

When Jacoba Ballard took her 23andMe test in 2014, she expected one or two half-siblings — after all, the Indianapolis fertility clinic her mother attended stated that her biological father’s sperm donation would be used no more than three times. When Ballard received her results, she found not one, not two, but seven half-siblings — and that was just the start. Years later, the 94 recorded half-siblings are seeking justice against their father — the fertility doctor who impregnated his patients with his own sperm and without their consent.

The 98-page document, obtained by Politico, was leaked to the public on May 2 and has since reignited the debate around abortion rights in the United States. 



Upcoming commencement events for Duke's undergraduate, graduate and professional students

‘I didn’t think it was real’: More than 100 formerly incarcerated Durhamites receive universal basic income deposits

More than 100 formerly incarcerated members of the Durham community received a deposit of $500 directly into their bank accounts in March. The money was granted unconditionally—no work requirement or strings attached—and the first of 12 monthly payments were dispensed through the Excel Pilot Program.
