An Open Letter to Duke University Administration Regarding Student Affairs Space in the Bryan Center
Having met with all four candidates for the position of Young Trustee, we are excited about the passion they exhibited for the university and its students. After much deliberation, the Asian Students Association (ASA) is proud to endorse Trey Walk for Young Trustee. We believe that Trey is the most qualified candidate for the Duke undergraduate student body, and in particular, the Asian and Asian American communities at Duke.
Having met with the four finalists for Young Trustee, we were thrilled to hear the vision and passion each candidate had for Duke’s campus. After much deliberation, the Asian Students Association (ASA) has chosen to endorse Bryce Cracknell for Young Trustee. We believe that Bryce is the most qualified candidate for the Duke undergraduate student body, and in particular, the Asian and Asian American communities at Duke.
Having had the opportunity to meet with all four candidates for Young Trustee, we were faced with having to choose among some of the most qualified candidates in recent history. After deliberations, the Asian Students Association is proud to endorse Steven Soto for Young Trustee. As the most qualified candidate to represent the Duke undergraduate student body and in particular, the Asian and Asian American communities at Duke, we feel that Soto’s experiences and perspective best prepare him to be an effective Young Trustee.
Blue Devils United, Mi Gente, The Duke University Asian Students Association, The Asian American Alliance, The Duke Muslim Students’ Association, Duke Voices for Interfaith Action and Women’s Housing Option are in solidarity with student efforts to stop the relocation of the Women’s Center. We call on University officials to begin a process of working with students to find a mutually agreeable space that will suit the Center's needs.
Duke’s Asian Students Association is proud to endorse Michelle Sohn for the position of Young Trustee. After interviewing each of the Young Trustee candidates, we found Michelle’s diverse experiences and strong academic and co-curricular credentials to be critical for this demanding position.
