Beyond the arc: Duke men's basketball vs. Penn State

Despite two injury scares for top-ranked Duke against Penn State Saturday in the semifinals of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off in Uncasville, Conn., the Blue Devils held off the Nittany Lions by a score of 78-68. Chase Jeter did not return to the game after injuring his ankle in the first half, making Duke's frontcourt even more depleted with Harry Giles, Marques Bolden and Jayson Tatum still sidelined as well, but the Blue Devils won even without making many substitutions in the second half.


Key three: Duke men's basketball vs. Penn State and Cincinnati/Rhode Island

The top-ranked Blue Devils will compete in the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off this weekend, as they take on Penn State Saturday and either No. 24 Cincinnati or No. 21 Rhode Island Sunday. After falling to No. 7 Kansas Tuesday, Duke will look to bounce back while some of its key players are likely to remain sidelined. Here are three keys to success for the Blue Devils this weekend:

Key three: Duke men's basketball vs. Marist and Grand Canyon

The Blue Devils open their season 7 p.m. Friday with a matchup against Marist at Cameron Indoor Stadium before hosting Grand Canyon the next day. Although neither game should be too challenging for top-ranked Duke, the season's opening weekend will give the team a chance to showcase what it has been working on throughout the summer and fall with a showdown against No. 3 Kansas looming Tuesday. Making the grade: Duke football vs. Georgia Tech

The Blue Devils rallied from a 21-point deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter Saturday against Georgia Tech, but gave up too many big plays that ultimately handed a 38-35 victory to Georgia Tech. Despite a strong performance from its offense, Duke was unable to make plays when it mattered most, which has been a theme for the team this season.
