Billy Joel turns back the clock

The cheers that greeted Billy Joel and his new band last week at the Charlotte Coliseum often reached the wild pitch associated with the appearance of a teen idol, not a middle-aged singer songwriter. Many critics had written off Joel as a has-been, but since the recent release of a new album River of Dreams the rocker has returned to the stage with renewed energy and popularity.



Garcia and Weir chat about the Dead's future

The Grateful Dead are alive and well. After canceling their fall tour due to the health problems of band leader Jerry Garcia, the group has returned to the stage with a rejuvenated Garcia and renewed energy. During two sold-out shows at Chapel Hill's Dean Dome, the band sounded spectacular and confirmed that this just may be, as Garcia has recently described, "the next golden age of the Dead."
