Durham is not a college town. I grew up in a college town, one where the campus blends into the city and every Saturday, 112,000 residents pack into a football stadium built just large enough to accommodate a few out-of-town guests. Together, 114,000 students and locals share the same set of bleachers and cheer for the same team. Duke separates itself from Durham with a wall, but across those low stones is a pretty great city.
The Park entrance for the Eno Quarry is located on Howe Street in northwest Durham, near the intersection of Hillsborough Road and Sparger Road. Admission to the quarry is free and the park is extremely popular, especially on summer weekends. Park rangers monitor the gravel lot at the quarry entrance and will turn away cars once the lot is full.
Delicious? Of course. Nutritious? Well, that's the real question. With signs boasting it to be 100 percent fat free, many students assume that Alpine Bagels and Alpine Atrium's frozen yogurt is a healthy choice for a midday snack.
