Students, not University, responsible for actions

(09/12/02 4:00am)

I second Josh Roses' question as to whether The Chronicle's columnists (if not the whole undergraduate population) are out of touch with reality. In her column, "Alcohol Policy Woes," Jennifer Wlach seems to be completely serious in her belief that it is the Duke administration's responsibility to provide under age Duke students with a safe environment in which to consume alcohol illegally and irresponsibly. I would find this laughable, except that the implications and consequences of this belief are so serious.

Letter: University must listen better to minority concerns

(04/06/01 4:00am)

I am writing on behalf of the University Task Force on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Matters. We have been following the campus events resulting from The Chronicle's decision to publish an advertisement written by David Horowitz regarding reparations for slavery in this country. Judging by the outpouring of emotion from the African-American community on campus, The Chronicle's decision to run the ad, most especially without distancing itself from the ad's contents, hit an understandably sore nerve regarding the place of racial minorities on this campus.
