Can't we all get along?

Race and race relations are my favorite subjects, and as I’ve mentioned before, there are problems with race relations on this campus and nationwide. Fortunately, I’m not only one who thinks this. According to Purple’s campaign, race relations is one of the top five important causes to students. So of course it’s only natural that I attended Purple’s discussion on race relations.




Will you make it out alive?

Last week, during my daily perusal of The Huffington Post, I came across the story of Derrion Albert. The 16-year-old honors student was on his way back from school when he was beaten to death by fellow high school students in front of his local community center. This beating was particularly horrifying because it was taped on someone’s cell phone and subsequently posted throughout the web and on many prominent sites like YouTube.


Race matters

In this age of Obama, I have often heard people express the belief that America has finally become a “post-racial” society. I guess they mean that with the election of the first black president (technically the first bi-racial president), the United States has proven that it has finally transcended its racially stained legacy.  But is that really true?
