The Obama doctrine of inaction

(09/23/15 6:05am)

As I have written in previous columns, there are consequences to electing a weak and naïve commander-in-chief. As much as I wish it were not true, we continue to face this reality, and each week, Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to test just how far he can push this administration. You can just about pick any month of any year throughout this presidency and find an example. When President Obama visited Estonia to reassure it of the United States’ commitment to its NATO allies, it took Moscow less than 48 hours to break international law and sneak into Estonia’s territory to abduct an Estonian citizen on fabricated espionage charges. When Putin lifted an arms hold and sold S-300 missiles to Iran, Obama responded that he was “frankly surprised that it held this long.” When Obama warned Putin that “there will be costs” for Russian aggression in Ukraine, Putin looked no further than the “costs” Obama imposed on Assad for crossing his chemical weapons red line not once, but more than fourteen times—and as the Kremlin laughed, Putin moved in to annex Crimea and invade Ukraine.

Have no fear, Hillary is here

(09/09/15 5:13am)

When it comes to fighting for the rights and equality of every American, there is only one person that comes to mind: Hillary Clinton. She is the Martin Luther King Jr. of our generation — a true hero who will not cease in her battle for justice. As the Republicans and racists (what’s the difference, really?) plunder the voting rights of Americans of color, we must come together and unite behind Hillary.

Another failure is no surprise

(08/26/15 7:37am)

Earlier this month, a column arguing for the merits of the Iran deal was published in The Chronicle, titled “If it sounds too bad to be true, it probably isn’t.” Although I believe that this administration’s deal with Iran will go down in history as one of the most detrimental foreign policy failures, I think that it is a topic that has already been well covered here on The Chronicle by both sides. Instead, I will address the skepticism and hesitancy from supporters of the deal to believe that the President of the United States could be so naïve. Could the Obama administration truly have failed as miserably as critics claim?

Sensationalism for a Month, Inner City Devastation Forever

(06/10/15 8:00am)

As May of 2015 concluded, it went down in history as one of Baltimore’s deadliest months, with more homicides than any other since 1972. It took less than half an hour before the city witnessed yet another homicide, its first for the month of June, and then another one occurred just two hours later. Shootings in May have doubled when compared to those during the same month in 2014. While fourteen people were murdered in March, the month preceding the Baltimore riots, that rate has more than tripled this May.
