11:49 - Well, it was a big night for The King's Speech, with the film talking home Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Picture. The Academy spread the love around tonight, awarding three Oscars to The Social Network, four to Inception and two each to The Fighter and Toy Story 3. Black Swan took home the Best Actress Oscar. Other Best Picture nominees True Grit, Winter's Bone, 127 Hours, and The Kids Are All Right each won no awards tonight.
10:58 The final words of the Awards: "And thank you to God for making me an atheist." Thank you Ricky Gervais; way to go for the controversy. I'm sure Bill O'Reilly will yell at you very soon. From my comfy chair in cold, dark Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, I wish you all a pleasant evening.
Best Picture:
The first year of the new decade brought with it a very top-heavy year in the world of cinema; there were some really fantastic films at the top, many of which I couldn’t fit herein: Conviction, The Social Network and Scott Pilgrim for starters, and then there was a lot of rubbish. Here are my favorites.

Most of us will remember 2010 as the year of the oil spill or the year the Republicans took the midterm elections or the year that a good Harry Potter flick finally found its way into theaters. Most of us will not remember 2010 by its films, especially with 2011 primed to be the year of blockbusters (Cowboys & Aliens, the final Harry Potter, Sucker Punch, etc.). But for those of us who love film and TV— and have way too much time on our hands to recount our favorite films, shows, and moments— this year still has its things worth remembering. That being said, I hope you'll take a gander at my top picks for this year.

Welcome to Recess’ coverage of the New York Comic Con 2010, the self-acclaimed “biggest and most exciting popular culture convention on the East Coast.” (I certainly wouldn’t debate the title.) The Con is much more than just the comic book show that the title may imply; it attracts entertainment moguls from all across the entertainment industries: literature, fashion, film, TV… there’s a little bit of everything. Keep checking the blog for updates from the show floor— it should be a great time!
Coach Al Buehler, who most students know as the namesake of the trail around the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, will soon have his story told to the world. Buehler, a track coach at Duke for 45 years, who coached six teams to ACC championships, stars in Starting at the Finish Line: The Coach Buehler Story, a documentary about the life of the sports legend.
