Duke rewrote the record books this weekend as the swim and dive teams traveled to their first invitationals of the season. Impressive performances in both Greensboro and Knoxville, Tenn., led to big victories and impressive new stats for the Blue Devils.

2022-23 record: 22-14, 9-11 in Conference USA
The cheers were deafening in Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion as the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay thundered to its conclusion. All four legs had seen quick relay starts and incredible bursts of speed, keeping Duke in close competition with UNC Wilmington. When the men entered the final five yards, it was unclear who would emerge victorious — and then the teams tied for first place, with identical times of 1:22.34.
The Blue Devils commenced their 2023-24 season Saturday in an away matchup against Virginia Tech. While the No. 15 women’s team emerged victorious 183-117, the men came up on the short end of a 166-120 score.
Duke is poised to enter the 2023-24 swim and dive season as an aquatic powerhouse. After finishing in 21st place at the 2023 NCAA Championships last year, the women’s team opens this season ranked No. 15. While the men’s program lacks a similar rank — having graduated several of its top point contributors last year — it boasts a talented younger class that will be looking to make a splash this winter.
