Duke women's basketball's inexperience shone through in loss to N.C. State, but so did its offensive potential

(01/22/24 6:16am)

Put plain and simple, Duke fell to a more experienced N.C. State team in a sold-out Reynolds Coliseum Sunday afternoon. Once the match got a move on and the Wolfpack’s bombardment of triples was responded to with thunderous applause, there was little the Blue Devils could do to keep themselves from going under.

I'm glad It's Thyme replaced Panda

Coming back from winter break for Duke’s 100th year, our gothic wonderland didn’t look much different than before, save for slightly fewer orange cones. One would think that after all the money and time Duke poured into tearing apart and reconstructing campus, we would at least have solved the issue of the small pond that forms in front of WU and Kilgo when it rains — alas. It was an exciting start of the season for Duke, as the team won its first match against a competitive VCU team Saturday. The Blue Devils managed to pull through 4-3 after junior Jake Krug won the tie-breaking game in a crucial third set, coming back after losing the first set 6-0, despite the retirement of star sophomore Pedro Rodenas.

RALEIGH—On a fast break midway through the third quarter, an Oluchi Okananwa pass for Duke was picked out of its path by Saniya Rivers, who dished it down the floor to Zoe Brooks for an easy layup with no Blue Devil within 10 feet. A sold-out crowd at Reynolds Coliseum clamored to their feet, with chants reaching levels similar to those inside Cameron Indoor Stadium.

No. 7 Duke men's basketball acutely feels defensive absence of Mitchell, Roach in shock loss to Pittsburgh

(01/21/24 4:39pm)

With just over a minute left to play, freshman guard Jared McCain knifed through the defense and snuck in a layup, bringing Duke back within one and firing up the home crowd. Suddenly, after an entire game of exchanging haymakers with Pittsburgh, the Blue Devils were finally ready to seize the victory.

'You can see it': Duke women's basketball's defense-first, youth-forward game plan secures rout of Virginia Tech

(01/19/24 5:57pm)

It was 8-0 with six minutes left in the first quarter. Duke played an incredible defensive possession, forcing Virginia Tech guard Cayla King into a remarkably difficult one-legged jumpshot. But as elite shooters do, she hit a miraculous triple, increasing the Hokie lead to 11-0.
