The year is 2020. You’re sitting in your bedroom in a presentable top and pajama pants, gathering the mental fortitude to click on a Zoom link to join class, a club meeting or maybe a random webinar. You wait until the clock hits the exact start time and click to connect. Upon entering the meeting, the host announces, “Let’s just wait a couple more minutes for everyone else to log on.” Great, what a waste of time!

Humans have a distinct tendency to learn most effectively through their own experiences. It’s an inherent characteristic — we are stubborn beings, often resistant to advice and guidance no matter how wise or well-intentioned it might be. This trait seems almost universal, and it’s one I’ve observed not only in those around me but also within myself. We often need to feel the heat of the fire firsthand before we truly understand why we were warned against it.

Shavit Kimchi fell down 3-0 early in the first set of her single’s match Saturday against No. 13 UCLA’s Kimmi Hance before turning in one of the more impressive performances the 17th-ranked Blue Devils have seen all season. The Sdey Hemed, Israel, native battled back to win the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 and seal a 4-0 sweep for Duke against the Bruins at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.

CHAPEL HILL—North Carolina’s largest lead Saturday came fairly early in the second half. An offensive rebound rattled away from the rim and into the waiting arms of junior forward Harrison Ingram, who coolly connected from the midrange to put the Tar Heels up 63-48 with a full 13:16 left to play. The Blue Devils spent the rest of the evening playing catch-up, doing just enough to stay within striking distance but never enough to truly make it a game again.

It was an iconic lob to Erik Meek that earned Bobby Hurley the record for assists in the NCAA. Meek jumped up, caught the pass in the paint and put in a layup. Hurley didn’t smile, but the crowd inside Cameron Indoor Stadium went wild.
