Sportswrap is your one-stop shop for everything Duke athletics, where we’ll recap how each of Duke’s sports currently in competition performed over the last week and give a brief look ahead. Here’s our recap for the week of Jan. 1-8:
It was a tale of the best of Duke and the worst of Duke in its 60-56 win against Virginia Sunday afternoon.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Sunday afternoon’s meeting between Virginia and Duke was one of two teams coming off bad losses. The Blue Devils put up a poor performance against No. 17 Louisville, while the Cavaliers dropped a game to a weak Georgia Tech squad. With that in mind, both groups were looking to bounce back after less-than-ideal starts to ACC play. On Sunday, it was the Blue Devils who managed to turn things around and come out with a 60-56 victory.
No. 14 Duke men's basketball continues its road trip as it takes on Pittsburgh Tuesday evening. The Blue Zone is here with three keys to keep the Blue Devil winning streak alive:
After each Duke basketball game this season, check back here for the Player of the Game and more. The Blue Devils gutted out a 67-59 win over Notre Dame in their first road game of the new year, and the Blue Zone breaks down the contest:
Winning ugly: an inevitable occurrence through the course of a season for great teams.
SOUTH BEND, Ind.—The first time the Blue Devils traveled away from Cameron Indoor for an ACC matchup — an ugly loss to Georgia Tech — they were sloppy and disjointed. This time around, it looked as though history may repeat itself, but No. 14 Duke was able to weather a rocky first half and pull away for a 67-59 win against Notre Dame inside Purcell Pavilion.
No. 14 Duke is looking to continue its winning streak Saturday evening at Purcell Pavilion in South Bend, Ind., against Notre Dame. After 20 minutes, the Blue Devils have work to do in order to keep their triumphant run intact, narrowly leading the Fighting Irish 29-27:
After the Blue Devils’ game Sunday against Boston College, head coach Kara Lawson noted how it is hard to turn the ball over at a high level and still win. Duke had 28 turnovers in the victory, largely in part due to 63.8% shooting. When the shooting falters, though, the same mistakes cannot occur.
LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Duke’s holiday trip to Louisville was quickly spoiled Thursday night as the Blue Devils found themselves drowning in a red sea on Denny Crum Court.
As No. 14 Duke men's basketball looks to keep its winning streak going, the Blue Zone identifies a key player to watch for both the Blue Devils and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish:
Duke began the new year traveling down to Chattanooga, Tenn., to compete in the 2024 Southern Scuffle. Throughout the two-day tournament, 12 Blue Devils wrestled against opponents from 20 different schools, including No. 18 Stanford, No. 19 Oklahoma and No. 22 Indiana.
After earning its first win of 2024 against Syracuse, No. 14 Duke men’s basketball is on the road again to face off against Notre Dame. Before the contest, the Blue Zone breaks down three keys to a Blue Devil victory:
The Blue Devils started off the new year right with a 20-point victory against Syracuse Tuesday. The Blue Zone recaps the win with the Player of the Game and more:
When the buzzer rang to commence a timeout called by Syracuse head coach Adrian Autry, four Blue Devils — Kyle Filipowski, Jared McCain, Tyrese Proctor and Jeremy Roach — jumped in the air to bump shoulders and cheer. Their airborne exultation could have been on a poster for sale at the Duke campus store: It was “The Brotherhood” at its finest.
