Miela Goodchild might play a big role for the Blue Devils this year.

Miela Goodchild

  • Year: Freshman
  • Height: 5-foot-10
  • Position: Guard
  • Last year's stat line: N/A

Game Breakdown: In a year where head coach Joanne P. McCallie will need many newcomers to step up and score the ball, Goodchild will be ready to shoot from the jump. The Australian native is a lethal threat from deep and will look to spot up in transition. The freshman is also a capable passer, as displayed by her team high six assists in the annual Blue-White scrimmage. She also posted 15 points on three makes from beyond the arc.

Goodchild is also currently spending her time in India with the Australian national team, where she has averaged over 18 points a game thus far. The experience in the tournament should help the freshman step up as a serious threat this season.

Role on the team: The Moreton Bay College product won’t have to worry about taking on too big of a role in her first season in Durham, as juniors Haley Gorecki and Leaonna Odom figure to take over a lot of the scoring. Goodchild should be fairly high up on the bench rotation and will be expected to come into the game and let it fly whenever open. She’ll have to fend off fellow freshman Rayah Craig for playing time as the season progresses, as Craig hasn’t been afraid of the stage either, and the two should push each other all year long.

Projected stats: 4.5 PPG, 1.8 RPG, 1.1 APG

Stay tuned to the Blue Zone for our continuing player previews with freshman Onome Akinbode-James tomorrow. Previous players previewed include Sofia Roma, Jayda Adams, Uchenna Nwoke and Rayah Craig.
