Daniele Proch's extra time goal helped Duke beat Vermont to win the John Rennie invitational.

They say the devil is in the details. But in Durham, the Blue Devils are in the details—and numbers.

Each week, the Blue Zone will dissect five key numbers from last week's action in Duke sports, whether they be historic or underwhelming. This week, let the numbers take you inside a career game for Brooke Heinsohn and a dominant performance by mens basketball to round out the Duke-Canada tour.

10

Sophomore goalkeeper Brooke Heinsohn performed very well against Georgetown, notching a career-high 10 saves to shutout the Hoyas in the teams' 0-0 draw last Thursday. Heinsohn, a first-year starter, now has two shutouts for the season and will be a major piece in Duke’s pursuit of another long playoff run.

The Blue Devils took down FIU 3-1 and Vermont 3-2 to win the John Rennie invitational for the third straight year. In the final game against Vermont, junior Daniele Proch scored his second goal of the game off an assist by freshman midfielder Seth Kuhn in extra time to secure the victory for Duke.

Seven different players scored in field hockey’s last two wins against Liberty (4-3) and William & Mary (4-0), for a very balanced offensive attack. After a disappointing loss in the second round of the playoffs last season, the Blue Devils would like to repeat their dominant season that got them to the NCAA tournament in the first place and take home the championship trophy that has eluded them for last five years.

13.3 percent

In their season opener against No. 8 BYU, the Blue Devils performed poorly, losing three straight sets with a match attack percentage of only 13.3 percent. Freshman Ade Owokiniran was the team leader in kills with 12, however, the Cougars’ seven blocks hurt Duke’s chances of making it a close game.

59

In the last preseason game before October, Duke routed its final Canadian opponent, McGill University 103-58, as freshmen RJ Barrett and Zion Williamson combined for 59 points. Throughout the Duke-Canada tour, Barrett and Williamson put the NCAA on notice, as they dominated games with their elite talent and athleticism. When fellow freshmen Cam Reddish and Tre Jones recover from their respective injuries, this team could be dangerous for a lot of D1 opponents.
