Jeremy Cash undergoes arthroscopic knee surgery, out indefinitely

Duke head coach David Cutcliffe inked 17 future Blue Devils to letters of intent on National Signing Day Wednesday, but may be without one of his biggest defensive weapons for much of spring practice.

Duke safety Jeremy Cash underwent a knee procedure Wednesday and is out indefinitely. The arthroscopic surgery was performed by Dr. Claude T. Moorman III, director of Duke Sports Medicine. No timetable has been announced for Cash's return to the gridiron.

"[He's] been bothered by a knee, so he had arthroscopic surgery today," Cutcliffe said to open his National Signing Day press conference Wednesday afternoon. "All has gone well to this point, so his status for the spring right now is a little bit up in the air. [We're] glad we went ahead and did it."

Cash announced Jan. 8 that he would return to Durham next fall for his final season of NCAA eligibility and is expected to anchor a veteran secondary that returns all five starters from last season's 9-4 squad.

The 6-foot-2 safety enjoyed a stellar redshirt junior campaign in 2014, recording 111 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 10.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions, six forced fumbles and a pair of fumble recoveries.

The Blue Devils open spring practice Friday.
