NCAA announces Final Four sites for 2017-2021

As the Blue Devils kept their minds on Presbyterian Friday night, college basketball's governing body was focusing on games to be played far, far down the road.

The NCAA announced Final Four sites from 2017 to 2021 Friday, and given Duke's history, the Blue Devils have to like their potential destinations.

College basketball's final weekend will be hosted by Phoenix in 2017, San Antonio in 2018, Minneapolis in 2019, Atlanta in 2020 and Indianapolis in 2021. Duke's four national championships have all been won in either Minneapolis or Indianapolis, which hosts the Final Four this season.

Houston, the landing spot for the 2016 Final Four, had already been announced as the host city. A potential trip to the Lone Star state would be a return journey for Blue Devils Matt Jones and Justise Winslow.

If the names on the NCAA's list sound familiar, it's because they are. There hasn't been a Final Four in Minneapolis since Duke cut down the nets at the now-demolished Metrodome in 2001, but the city will host college basketball's premiere weekend in 2019.

2021 will be the fifth Final Four in Indianapolis in the new millenium. Atlanta has hosted the event in 2002, 2007 and 2013, and Texas cities will have hosted six Final Fours by the time a champion is crowned in 2018.

New Orleans was the big loser in Friday's announcement, missing out on the Final Four after last hosting in 2003 and 2012. The 2017 Final Four will be the first to be hosted in Phoenix.

Only nine cities have hosted the Final Four since 2000. All have been in the Midwest.
