ACC debuts new logo following addition of former Big East schools

With the addition of former Big East power Louisville to the ACC, the conference unveiled a new logo Thursday.

The new conference brand comes before the ACC prepares for its 62nd year of athletic competition and features slanted font with sharp edges pointing forward.

Although Commissioner of the league John Swofford said in a news release that “the new, contemporary look modernizes and energizes the ACC mark, and, at the same time, still reflects the league’s history and rich tradition,” the slanted font strongly resembles the same style used on the Big East logo.

With Louisville joining the league July 1 and original member Maryland departing, the new logo comes at a critical time for the conference that sponsors 27 sports. Swofford agreed, claiming that “it seemed like a natural time to update our brand” as the Cardinal prepare to join last year’s conference rookies of Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse, along with more entrenched members Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, N.C. State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

It is debatable whether or not the new logo “reflects [the league’s] limitless potential,” but it is certain that the league is doing its best to make sure that the former Big East powers feel at home in their new conference.
