Travelogue: Mami Nora’s

Different ethnic cuisines such as Chinese, Indian and Ethiopian are well-represented in the Triangle area. However, if you’re looking for Peruvian food, look no further than Mami Nora’s, a traditional Peruvian rotisserie located just past Northgate Mall. It’s a delicious and authentic dining experience that shows off the intricate flavors of Peruvian cooking.

Mami Nora’s main specialty is its pollo a la brasa, or rotisserie chicken. The chicken is marinated and coated in a blend of herbs and spices before being spit-roasted, and the result is an intensely flavorful and moist chicken. Each order of chicken comes with two sides, such as cole slaw and chicken soup. When it comes to sides, the best route to go is the traditional one. The three key sides are yucca fries, tostones (fried plantain fritters) and fried sweet plantains. All three go excellently with the variety of sauces Mami Nora’s has to offer, from a spicy basil pistou to a mustardy mayonnaise.

Generic Script

Chicken is not the only food on display—Mami Nora’s menu also contains traditional Peruvian plates. One can order lomo saltado , or steak cooked with stir-fried vegetables and French fries and arroz chaufa
, or fried rice. Both dishes show off Chinese influence in Peruvian cooking. On the sweeter side of things, Mami Nora’s specialty is alfajores , which are tasty shortbread cookies filled with dulce de leche
and rolled in shredded coconut.

All in all, Mami Nora’s is a great entry-way into a cuisine not often seen in the Triangle area. If you are curious to try something a little different, head on over!
