HALFTIME: Duke 43, Georgia Tech 27

. Daniel Miller did provide some fireworks for the home crowd, flushing a transition alley-oop dunk nine minutes into the game, but the Blue Devils continued to build their lead as the half went on. Amile Jefferson converted an acrobatic running layup through contact to give Duke a 34-16 lead with 6:15 remaining. The Blue Devils coasted on to a 43-27 lead at the break.

Observations from the first half:

  • After coming off the bench against Maryland, Rasheed Sulaimon got the start over Quinn Cook. The two guards have split the last eight games, starting four apiece.
  • Krzyzewski utilized wholesale substitutions early and often—perhaps a leg-saving move given Duke's brutal schedule over the coming week.
  • After missing Georgia Tech's last contest with a groin injury, senior Trae Golden (averaging 13.4 points per game) was the first substitution off the bench for the Yellow Jackets, but the transfer struggled finding any rhythm. Golden finished with 2 points in 14 minutes of play.
  • Despite a lackluster offensive performance against Maryland, the Blue Devils found their shooting touch in the first half, shooting 59% from the field and a deadly 64% from beyond the arc, making seven triples.
