Duke basketball ranked No. 8 in AP poll

We finally have a number to put before Duke in blog posts and articles.

The Blue Devils begin the season ranked No. 8 in the nation in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll, second in the ACC behind N.C. State at No. 6. North Carolina at No. 11 and Florida State at No. 25 round out the ACC teams.

The top 10, in order are: Indiana, Louisville, Kentucky, Ohio State, Michigan, N.C. State, Kansas, Duke, Syracuse and Florida.

The Blue Devils have the potential to play all of the teams ranked No. 2-4 in its non-conference schedule. Duke plays No. 3 Kentucky in its second regular season game of the year in Atlanta on Nov. 13. They then have the potential to play No. 2 Lousiville in the final round of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament during Thanksgiving weekend if both teams advance to the finals. Then the Blue Devils host No. 4 Ohio State in this year's ACC/Big 10 Challenge game Nov. 28.

Also in the Battle for Atlantis, Duke has the potential to play No. 17 Memphis in the semifinals and No. 15 Missouri in the finals.

The Blue Devils are also ranked No. 8 in the USA Today/Coaches' Poll.
