CHESS, by Hoof ‘n’ Horn, opens tonight

Duke's student theater group Hoof 'n' Horn presents Chess in Duke's Sheafer Theater in the Bryan Center.

"Set in the midst of the Cold War, the story revolves around the highly publicized and politically charged chess matches between American and Soviet champions. Romance and political intrigue abound as each player is torn from the simplicity of the board game by all manner of head games and distractions. Love triangles, political maneuvers, exotic cities... all of this is set against a rock opera-esque score written by members of ABBA and with lyrics by Tim Rice, the composer who wrote scores for The Lion King, Aida and Evita."

Chess runs Jan. 27-29 and Feb. 3-5 at 8 p.m. with 2 p.m. showings Jan. 30, Feb. 5 and Feb. 6. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for Duke students and $5 for groups of 10 or more. Tickets can be purchased online at the Duke University Box Office, through the phone at (919) 684-4444 or in person at the Duke Box Office in the upper level of the Bryan Center.
