Cross Country takes on NCAA Southeast Regional

The Duke men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Louisville, Ky., Saturday to compete in the 2010 NCAA Southeast Regional, hosted by the University of Louisville at the E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park.

The No. 23 men’s team looks to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year, but the squad will have to overcome a field loaded with five other top-25 opponents, including local rivals No. 16 N.C. State and No. 18 North Carolina.

Josh Brewer, Andrew Brodeur, James Kostelnik, Josh Lund, Ryan McDermott, Clint McKelvey, Cory Nanni and Bo Waggoner will run for the Blue Devils Saturday.

The No. 17 women’s team will try to bring home its third regional championship in six years. Blue Devils Juliet Bottorff, Mary Carleton Johnston, Kristina Krasich, Madeline Morgan, Emily Schwitzer, Carly Seymour, Esther Vermeer and Sophia Ziemian will have to hold off No. 12 Virginia, No. 21 North Carolina and No. 29 N.C. State.

The women’s 6K race starts at 10 a.m., while the men’s 10K race begins at 11:15 a.m.
